Macdonald Holyrood Hotel & Spa, Edinburgh UK – Spa Review

Macdonald Holyrood Hotel is a great spot in Edinburgh if you want to be near to the Royal Mile but not in the midst of the hustle and bustle. Situated on Holyrood Road next to the Palace and the Scottish Parliament building it’s also a good people spotting location.

The hotel itself is across 6 floors with a bar and restaurant on the ground floor and a pool, gym and spa in the basement.

Facilities

The gym looked impressive with all the gear but as usual that wasn’t what we were there for. The pool was a good sized pool although renovations were being undertaken to both the pool area and the changing rooms.

Relatively simple to use however the lockers were those where you need to create a code and it was pot luck if you could find one that worked!

The pool itself was a pleasant temperature and a deep blue which always feels more ‘spa like’. The hydro facilities included a sauna and a steam room however the steam room was out of order during our visit. The sauna was a good size and could fit 5 -6 people comfortably.

Treatments were available using the Elemis products and the staff were very friendly if you wanted any advice.

Overall the pool was a nice addition to a reasonably priced hotel close to the Royal Mile in the Old Town. Our only tip would be to check when the swimming lessons are taking place if you are heading to the pool with a book to cabbage on the loungers.
